As announced by ZDNet’s website in March this year, Joseph Bradley, head of the technology project in Neom project, said that the operating system was specifically placed to manage and monitor the project and to collect a huge amount of data on everyone in Neom; that is about 90% of population and investors’ information. Bradley added that this system will be working via NEOS operating system.
How does NEOS work?
The head of technology in the City project revealed that the city’s management will issue a national ID card for each resident in the city, where NEOS will be dealing with all information including heartbeats, spying on phones, face recognition devices, banking details, and all devices that used the internet throughout the city.
The entry or exit from the resident’s room will be recognized, through fingerprints on his room handle.
Oddly enough, Bradley said that the collection of all that data will be in the interest of resident in the first place, as he believes that this would be an unprecedented step not provided in any other country in the world, which also means the success of Neom over all other projects in the world.
In response to objections and accusations that this is a move by the intelligence, Bradley said that this data will only be collected after obtaining approval from the customer and resident in the city. Neom’s management will not take any steps against the will of residents as he respects the right of the individual in privacy. However, Bradley did not answer the question of whether residents would have to give their information before living in Neom or not?, and who can guarantee that information collected including the handle’s fingerprints and robots would not collect these data and process it in case of his refusal?
Experts Opinions
Experts in the field of operating and surveillance systems said that this move will cause a significant decline in clients approaching living in Neom, as they would feel under control all the time, which would make people less relaxed, despite promises of the city administration to provide for residents.
This statement caused confusion for many businessmen who felt that this system is not aiming to take care of residents but rather control them and treat them like the robots MBS wanted to introduce in his vision in 2017 for the city which he called ‘The dream city of the dreamers of the world; however, is Neom becoming the dream city or the nightmare?
