Several international study centers and media sources have reported the new establishment of a new presidential council in Yemen, considering it a defeat to the Saudi role in the region.

International observers affirmed that establishing a presidential council in Yemen cannot cover the Saudi defeat in the war-torn country, even if the Saudi authorities have welcomed the move, as the primary objectives of the Saudi military operation in Yemen – liquidating Houthi group – was not achieved yet. In contrast, the Houthi group has advanced its military power, after launching drone attacks on strategic sites in the Kingdom.

Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft said the formation of the Yemeni Presidential Council reflects the Saudi frustration towards President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, considering the two-month ceasefire in the war-torn country as a green line for a new round of violence in Yemen.

According to Quincy report, the new Yemeni leadership came after US Congressmen declared intention to reconsider US financial support to the military operations in Yemen, forcing Saudis to move toward resolving the conflict.

The Washington Post pointed out that the newly-declared truce between the warring sides in Yemen’s seven-year conflict came after heavy Saudi concessions. Saudi Arabia expected to defeat Houthis within weeks. However, the war has exhausted the kingdom’s funds, and sparked widespread international criticism.

The New York Times said that victory for Saudi Arabia, which receives extensive military aid from the United States, remains elusive.

Now, the kingdom is searching for a way out of the war by backing a cease-fire and a new presidential council to lead the Yemeni government, the paper read.

The newspaper concluded by saying that Yemen’s war is expensive for the Saudis, and it is certainly more expensive for them than it is for their enemy.
