The Wall Street Journal reported that despite the massacres the Israeli occupying entity has committed and continues to commit in Palestine and the state of tension and widespread public dissatisfaction in the Arab World, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is insistent on forging historical relations between the Kingdom and the Israeli occupation.
According to the newspaper, the Biden administration is continuing to bring together American, Saudi, and Israeli officials in an effort to reach an agreement to establish official relations between the occupation and Saudi Arabia. The Biden administration is also reportedly trying to whitewash the Saudi position by putting pressure on Netanyahu to accept, both explicitly and implicitly, the creation of a Palestinian state.
It is noteworthy that covert talks between Saudi Arabia and Israel have been held in recent months and were planned prior to the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip. The purpose of these talks was to enable Saudi Arabia to sign the Abraham Accords, which were started by the UAE and subsequently Bahrain, in order to achieve official Arab normalization with the Israeli occupation state, even though the public dissatisfaction with the countries’ official stances.
In exchange for Saudi Arabia accepting official normalization with Israel, the US administration under Biden had offered the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, permission to have civilian nuclear energy, expand the kingdom’s defensive armament, and gradually accept the emergence of MBS on the international political scene. Perhaps as a result, the people’s position will be affected and Israel will be gradually accepted.
The United States and other countries have been able to successfully shoot down Iranian missiles and drones that have been launched against the occupying state in recent days, according to American officials. This has demonstrated to Israel that closer integration and officially recognized normalization with Saudi Arabia can increase its security against threats emanating from Tehran.
Biden is expected to use the official Saudi-Israeli normalization deal as a political tool to expand the scope of the Abraham Accords, which his Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, finalized, and to accomplish a significant diplomatic breakthrough in the midst of the presidential campaign year. Normalization of relations between Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco resulted from the agreements; however, Biden faces challenges because of Netanyahu’s opposition of the creation of a Palestinian state, even though MBS has accepted the offer.
